music LESSONS for all ages
Compass Music Academy focuses on fun, unique lessons that are tailored to each student and his/her goals. Our team of teachers emphasizes song-based learning by helping students break down their favourites into the most basic form and highlighting the techniques needed to play them. Every lesson is designed around our core philosophy of teaching: the process of achieving your goals should be as enjoyable and rewarding as the achievement itself. Call us today to book a trial lesson and see what we're all about.

Having taught hundreds of students in his decade of teaching, Eric has developed a fine-tuned skill for tailoring each lesson to the individual's learning style. He emphasizes learning by ear and guides our students to become well-rounded musicians as they work toward their own performance goals.
On top of teaching, Eric continues to work as a freelance artist for musicians across the province. He has toured across Canada in support of artists like Toby Keith, Blue Rodeo, Teri Clarke, Allan Doyle, Tom Cochrane and Jason McCoy. He has also recorded both guitar and bass on many albums, including Ben's JUNO nominated Floods and Fires by Craig Cardiff.
Gab plays both piano and drums and has completed his ARCT with the Royal Conservatory of Music in Piano Performance in February of 2015. He has many years of experience as a performer in both solo and band settings. Gab believes that each student learns differently and is committed to adapting to suit the personality of each individual.
Caroline Cyr has been entertaining crowds with her incredible vocal range for over 2 decades. Her introduction to music began by learning to harmonize with her sister to songs by her musical influences like Mariah Carey, Gwen Stefani, Heart and Led Zeppelin and her vocal range today reflects what appears to be an effortless combination of Classic Rock with a twist of Pop.
In her younger years Caroline was heavily involved in the musical group Cafe Chantant in grades 11 and 12 and volunteered as a vocal assistant in both her final year of OAC and post grad. The first band Caroline joined was in 2010, called “the Skinny Band”. They participated and won a local contest which granted them the opportunity to open for rock band Heart at the Mattawa Voyageur Days that same year. She has gone on to join fun cover bands including Coupla Gals, Oreo Speedwagon (covering everything 80s) and another band dedicated entirely to a front-to-back album by Radiohead.
Caroline will be teaching vocals at Compass Music Academy and will be focusing on breathing techniques, vocal scales as well as tools for stamina, dynamics, and stage presence. Her approach to teaching will allow students to be well-rounded, confident performers in the style of song that they are most passionate about.
With over 15 years of drumming experience and 4 years of teaching, Vince has performed on over 15 albums and toured Ontario extensively.
With Vince, students will learn basic rhythm, note reading and technique that will quickly evolve into practical methods for improvisation (great for Rock School!) and self-expression. He believes in practicality through practice and listening, stressing the importance of the ear as students develop a relationship with their instrument and in a band setting.
Lindsay Sullivan has been creatively exploring all things musical since she can remember. From musical theatre experience in her high school days, serenading her two pups at home, to academically studying voice (RCM) and piano, she cannot deny any one of her passions for the different joys each instrument creates.
She has experience teaching ukulele lessons and workshops to students of all ages and has facilitated music-making workshops for both songwriting and rhythm. Lindsay was one of the winners of the 2016 Canadian Songwriter Challenge and thoroughly enjoys sharing her experiences with aspiring writers.
Amidst her busy schedule she continues to lend her vocals for weddings, events and live bands throughout the city and is currently working on her Masters of Arts degree in Community Music through Wilfrid Laurier University.
Lindsay holds a firm belief that music helps build communities and her philosophy is that anyone and everyone can participate in music making.
Ryan has been teaching music privately for the past decade while continuing his own studies in drums, guitar and vocals alongside local talents Rob Joanisse, Karen Schiavone and Brian McDowell. Creatively, he enjoys focusing on songwriting and is always excited to share his acquired knowledge with all of our students.
Compass Music Academy is proud to offer North Bay’s first and only Rock School program. With the guidance of our seasoned teachers, students will go beyond one-one-one lessons to learn how to play in a group and put on a great rock show!
